(Outdoor sports) Chinese player Toray wins through Gran Canaria

In a thrilling outdoor sports event, Chinese athlete Toray made headlines by securing third place in the women's super team category at the Gran Canaria Cross-Country race on July 7th, 2015. The race, part of the 2015 Super Cross-Country World Tour (UTWT), covered 125 kilometers with an elevation gain of 8,500 meters and a 30-hour time limit. Toray completed the course in 18 hours, 15 minutes, and 55 seconds, showcasing her endurance and determination. Despite battling jet lag and struggling to adjust to the local time before the race, Toray pushed through and finished strongly. She also competed alongside host player Nurija, finishing just one hour, 22 minutes, and 28 seconds behind the winner. This achievement marked another milestone in her career, as she has consistently earned medals in 100km and longer cross-country races. Reflecting on the challenge, Toray noted that the Gran Canaria course was more demanding than any 100km race she had previously tackled. The steep climbs, rugged terrain, and unique geographical features made it one of the toughest races she had ever faced. On the men’s side, Chinese runner Yan Longfei, who had recently set a personal best in a 100km race in Hong Kong, had to withdraw due to physical discomfort during the competition. The men’s super group was won by Lithuanian athlete Guti Gryffinski from Sri Lanka, who finished in 14 hours, 23 minutes, and 37 seconds. The Gran Canaria Cross-Country event, which began in 2003, has grown significantly over the years. The first edition saw only 65 participants, but this year’s race attracted over 1,400 athletes from around the world, highlighting its increasing popularity and prestige in the global off-road racing community.
