**KOLON SPORT Mountaineering School Opens in China – April 13, 2015**
In 2015, KOLON SPORT made a significant move by establishing the KOLON China Mountaineering School. This marked the beginning of its long-term commitment to promoting safe and effective outdoor climbing and mountaineering in China. Founded in 1985 in South Korea, KOLON ALPINE SCHOOL has been a leading institution for professional outdoor education, dedicated to spreading proper mountaineering techniques and safety practices. The year 2015 was particularly meaningful as it celebrated the 30th anniversary of the school’s founding.
To prepare for this expansion, a group of 14 senior Chinese climbers visited the KOLON Mountaineering School in the foothills of North Hwanghae Mountain in South Korea in July 2014 and January 2015. These visits were part of an exchange program aimed at building a strong foundation for the Chinese branch. On April 6, 2015, KOLON SPORT officially announced the establishment of the KOLON China Mountaineering School, marking a new chapter in its global mission.
China's vast mountainous landscapes and rich natural resources provide an ideal environment for outdoor activities. However, many people still lack the knowledge and skills needed to engage safely in climbing and mountaineering. KOLON SPORT recognized this gap and saw the urgent need for a professional training institution that could educate and inspire local enthusiasts.
The KOLON China Mountaineering School is built on the principles of rationality, freedom, and progress. It combines traditional climbing techniques with modern teaching methods to ensure participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Each course includes personalized guidance from experienced instructors, with a one-on-four or one-on-five instructor-to-student ratio, ensuring a supportive and effective learning environment.
The school's instructors are not only skilled climbers but also passionate educators. They bring diverse backgrounds and a deep love for the outdoors, aiming to inspire the next generation of climbers in China. With a focus on safety, innovation, and accessibility, the school strives to make climbing more inclusive and enjoyable for all.
As the first courses began in April 2015, including the Outdoor Basic Course and Primary Climbing Course, the KOLON China Mountaineering School set a strong foundation for future growth. Its non-profit mission is to promote climbing culture, encourage outdoor participation, and create a vibrant community where everyone can enjoy and learn about mountaineering.
