Professor of Hong Kong Polytechnic University developed waste recycled bricks

Pan Zhisheng, a professor of civil and structural engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, successfully used construction waste to make environmentally-friendly road bricks and wall tiles and plans to bring this waste reuse technology to market.

More than 80% of such road bricks and wall tiles are construction waste, and others are cement. At present, Prof. Pan is studying the addition of photosynthetic catalysts on road bricks to absorb pollutants in the air, such as the conversion of organic volatile substances emitted by automobiles into carbon dioxide and water, but the cost is 30%-40% higher than that of ordinary bricks.

Previously, this type of environmental protection brick was tested on some buildings from May to August. Experts will observe the test results after one year of observation. According to reports, 20% of the current construction waste can be recycled and reused, including sand, mud, sarcophagus, bricks and tiles.
