Practice of 6sigma Management System in Packaging Production

Abstract : This paper briefly introduces the 6sigma management system, its definition, purpose and implementation steps. It mainly focuses on the 6sigma in a series of specific applications.

Keywords: Packaging Management, Quality Control, Six Sigma

Since the 1980s, following the successful use of 6sigma management methods by major companies such as Motorola, IBM, and GE, the term 6sigma and his management ideas have received great attention worldwide. The effective management of 6sigma first made production managers interested. Jack Welch used this system to create miracles for GM. This influence shocked the academic world, and many scholars began to have a keen interest in the 6sigma's theoretical system, and put forward their own views on how they can be better applied to various fields. In continuous innovation, 6sigma not only became a method of production management, but also became a way of thinking and an advanced productivity for people to effectively use various resources. Therefore, we hope to introduce the management method of 6sigma into the quality management process of packaging production in order to obtain more objective, scientific and effective analysis results than traditional analysis methods.

The ultimate purpose of 1 6sigma

6sigma is a management method that can improve the profitability of enterprises by reducing product defects. It is a reasonable and effective allocation of resources from the optimization of the process, and reduces the internal consumption of the enterprise, which leads to higher profits. A method and management system that helps management make effective decisions through statistical methods and tools.

The ultimate goal of 6sigma is to satisfy customers and make profits. The management of 6sigma is to find problems from the process to eradicate the problem, and unlike finding the defective product in the finished product, it can only improve the customer's satisfaction and cannot directly improve the profit. At the same time, we also think of the problem that, in a company, resources are always relatively scarce. Both human, material, and financial resources are limited by the increase in costs. Therefore, another goal of 6sigma is to find and find the most important factors affecting customer satisfaction and profitability.

2 6sigma implementation steps

The implementation of 6sigma can be divided into 5 major steps, abbreviated as DMAI2C. DMAl2C Overview:

D (design) definition, to find out the cost of the company's most costly process to make customers worry about the entire process, if you can properly solve this type of problem, he received the greatest return;

M (measure) measurement, collecting accurate data to provide factual evidence for subsequent steps;

A (analysis) analysis, using statistical methods to find the root cause of problems from the data obtained;

I2 (improve & innovation) improvement and innovation, improvement of key quality features that do not meet expectations, and then extended to improvements and innovations throughout the process;

C (contr01) control, re-incorporating the above results into standards to preserve the durability of the effect.

3 Application of 6sigma principle in packaging production

Now we will discuss the actual packaging case. A company's 6sigma project on wet tissue packaging production lines aims to reduce the loss of packaging bags and increase the passing rate of finished products.

Step 1 Definition: The purpose of the definition is to specify the purpose and scope of the project, to understand the process and the customer's background, to have a clear description of the areas of intentional improvement and how to measure; to establish a macro flow chart; to list the importance of the customer It is convenient for targeted improvement.

The goal of this case is to increase production and reduce losses from 17% to 12%.

6sigma converts customer opinions into CTQ (key quality characteristics) treemaps and translates the customer's opinion (VOC) into the map. Five small targets can be isolated from the goal of increasing production, namely: the operator's experience The quality of raw materials; the quality of packaging materials; the reliability of the equipment; requirements of the QTA department.

As shown in Figure 1. This step helps the sub-process to further analyze the optimization and ultimately find the key quality features we want to find.

Step 2 Measurement: The purpose of the measurement is to collect data and determine the focus of the improvement work. When the main study object is defined in the definition of step 1, the data will be collected at this step to actually understand the current status of the process you want to improve. This data will provide the basis for the analysis (Step 2). The general steps of measurement are: collect basic data about defects and possible causes, formulate sampling strategies, repeatability and reproducibility of the gauges to verify your measurement system, analyze the patterns in the data, and determine process capabilities.
