Recently, the Satellite Navigation and Positioning Technology Research Center of Wuhan University revealed that the Beidou high-precision ground-based enhanced service system developed by the scientific and technical personnel of the center can provide real-time centimeter-level positioning and decimeter-level positioning for ships sailing on the Bohai Sea area under any weather conditions. Navigation services, this technology is expected to completely change the status quo of China's coastal navigation and positioning completely dependent on foreign technology.
The “3D High-precision Positioning Bohai Bay Demonstration System in the North China Sea†established by Wuhan University Satellite Navigation and Positioning Technology Research Center and the North Sea Navigation Support Center of the Ministry of Transport and Communications was put into operation in November last year. The system uses high-precision receivers, high-precision positioning data processing software developed by Wuhan University and other software and hardware devices with completely independent intellectual property rights. After rigorous testing, its positioning accuracy is better than 3 cm in plane and 4 cm in vertical, and its effective coverage is 45 nautical miles offshore.
The application of satellite navigation can be divided into navigation users and precision positioning users according to users' needs for precision. Surveying, urban construction, planning, marine, water conservancy and other industries require precise positioning at centimeter level or even millimeter level. At present, the accuracy of GPS-based navigation in China's sea is about 10 meters. This time, entering the "centimeter era" will provide more accurate three-dimensional (3D) positioning services for safe navigation of ships, hydrographic surveys, and exploration of marine resources. At present, the Wuhan University Satellite Navigation and Positioning Technology Research Center is stepping up research and development, extending the technology to the entire coastal waters of China, and formulating Beidou high-precision positioning standards to the International Maritime Organization.
