In the glittering bag, Orlando Baking’s 4 cheeses, garlic bread and Italian garlic bread are breaded. The bag is manufactured by American Packaging Corporation (APC) and consists of PET/ink/glue/metallized polypropylene. What makes the bag glitter is the printing technology in the manufacturing process. APC uses 8-color reverse printing, using a new flexographic technology from the Cincinnati Phototype under the technical name NuDot. NuDot is an advanced prepress plate making system, and APC says it has made excellent copies in a new way to form outlets.
This dot technology can print X-shaped dots instead of circular dots in a specific tone range. When the ink is transferred from the X, it will form a new well-shaped round or diamond-shaped dots, greatly improved than the traditional dot-like dot-like dot printing. Phototype's printing team, along with APC's printing operators, are ready to print with NuDot plates. First, they performed a routine fingerprint test under normal four-color printing conditions to determine the optimal shadow angle in order to obtain effective coverage of most inks. Based on this analysis, Phototype has created a series of new network supplement curves specifically for this printing.
"The excellent NuDot equipment coupled with experienced printer operators helped us achieve outstanding pattern design and improved flexographic printing technology using solvent-based inks," explained APC. When the ink is transferred from a conventional flexographic plate to the surface of a smooth, non-porous film substrate, it may splash to form an ink block. This can produce printed blemishes that look like donut circles, while the field part is light and mottled. NuDot can help prevent this from happening by using high-frequency particles to "decompose" the dots on the plate into smaller units and reorganize the particles to form new dot shapes, or edge lines, for use on high-hardness film materials. The ink can produce natural bead and river features. NuDot can provide different photosensitive polymer materials and thickness of the plate.
