India's first integrated textile park leather district will be completed at Howrah

The first textile industrial complex in India, to be completed in the Howrah area in a few months, will cost Rs1.1 billion to accommodate about 150 companies. The formal operation of the textile park will produce yarns and garments, and the Indian government has planned nearly 100 acres of land for the project. The Chamber of Textile Trade Industry Chamber of India has negotiated with the Indian government for electricity subsidies for Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh states for at least five years and made a request for permission to use contractors in the park. The textile park is expected to create 10,000 direct jobs. Due to underinvestment, poor infrastructure, backward technology and low productivity, the development of local textile industry in India is hindered. The once thriving Indian textile industry has been slow to grow and productivity has weakened over the past three decades, with only 21 textile companies operating in the state of Nowrah and 42 in the 1980s. In addition, about 10-15% of textile enterprises are under-employed. These enterprises must double their production to meet their needs and cope with export markets.
