The inkjet printing market will reach $67.3 billion in 2017

According to a report from Pira, a leading global consultancy in the packaging, Printing, and paper industries, the global inkjet printing market reached approximately $33.4 billion in 2011 and is projected to grow to $67.3 billion by 2017. This significant growth highlights the increasing importance of inkjet technology across various sectors.

The key driver behind this expansion is the versatility of inkjet printing, which has proven effective in numerous applications. It is deeply integrated into different industries, offering flexibility and efficiency. As shown in the chart, future demand for inkjet printing is expected to rise in areas such as books, magazines, labels, billing documents, and packaging. Although it currently holds a small share of the global printing market, inkjet technology has experienced rapid growth, especially as traditional printing methods face challenges. More manufacturers are now entering the market, recognizing its potential.

In 2017, it is estimated that inkjet printing will account for about 1% of total global print volume, with a market share of around 7%. Signage remains the largest application area, representing 57% of the 2011 inkjet printing market. However, as the market expands into other segments like books, direct mail, packaging, and labels, the dominance of signage is expected to decline. Additionally, high-speed inkjet printing has demonstrated great potential, particularly in sectors such as books, newspapers, and magazines, drawing more attention from equipment suppliers. For instance, HP reported that its high-speed inkjet printers produced 8 billion printed sheets in 2011—an impressive 459% increase compared to 2010. This indicates strong growth and promising opportunities in the high-speed inkjet printing sector.
