However, since last year's global recession, China's manufacturing industry has been in a sluggish state. Demand for waste plastic bottles used as raw materials has been greatly reduced, and waste plastic bottles that are about to be exported have piled up in Japanese ports.

China does not purchase discarded plastic bottles at a high price, and recyclers do not intend to purchase them, resulting in the situation of the townships and towns that have disposed of plastic bottles themselves.

The "Container Recycling Association" held a re-tendering operation for such municipalities in January this year. By the end of March, the association will pay the industry an average of 1,143 yen per ton to handle a large number of waste plastic bottles.

Take Yokohama City as an example. In 2007, about 11,000 tons of waste plastic bottles were collected, and 356 million yen in revenue was processed on their own. However, in December last year, the industry refused to accept the use of plastic bottles and had to apply to the Container Recycling Association for bids to be purchased by the Association at a price of 900 yen per tonne. It is currently decided to dispose of 2,477 tons by the end of March.
