How to distinguish organic food on tall? Look at the signs to see the package check organic code

[Chinese Packaging Network News] From pollution-free to green, and then organic, these terms are often used to describe food that is natural, healthy, and non-polluting. Organic food has become a symbol of high-quality and safe eating, but this premium status comes with a higher price—often several times more than regular food. As a result, some dishonest merchants have started to mislabel non-organic products as organic in order to make extra profits. So how can consumers tell the real from the fake? Mao Xiemin, from the Quality and Technology Supervision and Certification Administration Division of the Changzhou Municipal Bureau, explained: “The first thing we check is the packaging. The main difference between organic and regular food is the presence of an official organic logo.” According to the “Organic Product Certification Implementation Rules” introduced on July 1, 2012, all organic products must be labeled with the national organic certification mark. This includes the unique code, the name of the certifying body, or its logo. Mao added that the latest version of the organic label now features the words “China Organic Products” in a circular design. “Each organic label must include the name of the certification organization. For example, if it's a Beijing-based company, the label will show the latest organic code along with the logo.” During a recent inspection at a local supermarket, officials found a bag of organic black beans with a green certification mark. The packaging clearly listed the certifying body’s name, serial number, and an anti-counterfeit coating over the organic code. Mao explained that by scratching off the coating, the code becomes visible and can be checked directly via a mobile phone. “Once you scan it, you can see the manufacturer’s details, product specifications, and packaging information. This helps confirm whether the product is genuinely organic.” On the official organic product certification inquiry website, entering the scratched code from the black bean package matched the information on the packaging exactly, confirming that the product was authentic. In recent years, organic food has become increasingly common in supermarkets, with many stores featuring dedicated organic sections. However, a recent survey revealed that not all these products are genuine. Many items labeled as organic are actually unverified or even fake. So, what’s the reality of organic food on the market today? Are they properly regulated? A reporter visited two major supermarkets in the city and found that organic options were limited. At Tesco, only certain brands of oils, rice, and milk were labeled as organic, while common organic products like eggs, fruits, and vegetables were not available. This suggests that while the demand for organic food is growing, the supply remains restricted and carefully controlled. Consumers should remain vigilant and use the official verification tools provided by certification bodies to ensure they are getting real organic products.
