In the face of real estate regulations, the furniture industry is experiencing a tough time. Many companies are struggling, and some even call this year the "winter" for the sector. However, Yang Jianxin, who owns nine brand stores in Yumin Decoration City, has not only maintained his business but also plans to expand by opening two or three more stores. Why is he going against the trend? What makes him so confident in such a challenging environment?
After talking with Yang, it became clear that his success stems from understanding customer needs and following their pace rather than chasing trends. He believes in staying close to what people want, which gives him an edge in a competitive market.
Yang, originally from Jiangsu, started his career as a carpenter and gradually built his own business. His passion for furniture has always driven him forward. Today, he operates nine well-known brands in Yumin, including Weitron, Zhonghui, Royal Peter, Meilun, Senyuan, Prince, Beijing Feilong, Dingyuan, and Baichuan. These stores mainly sell solid wood furniture and some fabric sofas. He's confident in his products, saying, “It’s easier to grow when you have quality. Customers often ask for recommendations.â€
During the interview, several customers greeted Yang, one of whom had recently purchased furniture and was having it shipped to Shanghai. Yang said, “Good quality, fair prices, and a wide range of choices—there’s no fear of no business. Our customers come from Dalian, Beijing, Qinghai, even as far as the Netherlands.â€
Despite the current economic challenges, Yang sees opportunities in every difficulty. He believes that those who are prepared will find the best chances. In the furniture industry, persistence during downturns can lead to greater rewards. “Whoever can go against the trend, adapt quickly, and build a strong core will have more opportunities,†he said.
Another key factor behind his success is excellent after-sales service. Since moving into Yumin in 2002, Yang has remained committed to the area, believing it to be a place where people and businesses thrive. He emphasized that while he may not be the smartest, he has his own vision and values.
In addition to selling high-quality furniture, Yang offers free delivery and installation, and even free disassembly and reassembly for customers who move. This service, though adding extra work, has led to a loyal customer base. “Over 70% of our customers return or come through referrals. It all comes down to our excellent after-sales support,†he said.
Facing the current market downturn, Yang remains optimistic. He believes that while running a business is getting harder, finding the right approach and following customer needs will help him fly against the trend.
