Freetown News: Wang Yu, director of the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, recently said in Freetown, Sierra Leone, that China will help Sierra Leone to establish the Ebola virus testing laboratory and the Ebola case isolation control center.
A team of 9 experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention arrived in Freetown on the 2nd of this month and visited Sierra Leone President Koroma and the new Minister of Health Favana last weekend.
Wang Yu said that China will shortly transport a mobile laboratory to Sierra Leone in the short term, and will be placed in the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital on the outskirts of Freetown, where the Ebola Case Isolation Center will be established. In addition, China will cooperate with the Serbian side to establish a biosafety level three laboratory within a few months.
Koroma briefed the Chinese expert group on the measures taken by the Government of Sierra Leone in response to the epidemic and the main challenges it faced, and thanked China for providing timely and urgently needed medical and human resources assistance to Sierra Leone. He expressed the belief that Sierra Leone will be able to control the Ebola outbreak as soon as possible with the help of international development partners including China.
Wang Yu and his entourage also visited two Ebola epidemic prevention and control centers under construction in Sierra Leone and contacted the agencies such as the World Health Organization.
