Zhaoqing City takes the lead in applying 3D printing technology to treat fractures

A few days ago, the orthopedic team of a hospital in Zhaoqing City introduced 3D printing technology to provide patients with a "private-customized" treatment. The fracture model created by 3D printing technology can enable doctors to upgrade from the two-dimensional space of traditional film or computer images to the three-dimensional space of the object, which is convenient for observing and diagnosing fractures, thus providing an ideal treatment plan for fracture patients.

Zhaoqing City takes the lead in applying 3D printing technology to treat fractures

It is reported that the Department of Orthopaedics of a hospital in Zhaoqing City admitted a patient with multiple fractures of the pelvis, upper limbs and lower extremities in April this year. The patient was a 40-year-old migrant worker who fell from a height because of an accidental operation. After the rescue, the vital signs are stable, but surgery is needed to treat the fractures in time. According to the traditional surgical procedure, the operation and anesthesia are long and the bleeding is excessive, which will cause great trauma to the patient, and the operation is difficult, and the doctor puts forward higher technical requirements. How to be efficient and safe, and reduce the trauma to patients has become a problem faced by orthopedic surgeons.

The team of orthopedic surgeons in a hospital in Zhaoqing City used the preoperative CT scan data to understand the patient's approximate fractures and used the 3D printing technique to create a patient's pelvic and limb fracture model. The fracture model simulates the actual situation of the fracture site according to the size of 1:1, which more intuitively reflects the fracture of the patient. The orthopedic experts use the 3D fracture model to repeatedly simulate various feasible surgical plans.

It is understood that 3D printing technology to make such a human fracture model takes 7-8 hours, in addition to the feel like hard plastic, the appearance is almost the same as the human bone specimen, can be fake. At present, the Department of Orthopaedics, No.1 Hospital of Zhaoqing City has carried out 3D print-assisted surgery in the cases of comminuted fractures of the knee, hip, ankle, wrist and elbow joints. It has completed 6 cases and is the first in Zhaoqing City. Hospitals that use 3D printing technology to assist surgery have greatly improved their efficacy.
