Grinding and polishing process for quartz ore flakes


Quartz is a mineral resource with very stable physical and chemical properties. According to the percentage of elements and elements contained in it, many different characteristics can be formed. According to the characteristics of each variety, it is applied to industries such as optics, glass, electronics, ceramics, electric porcelain, glazed tiles, fine ceramics, paints, chemicals, rubber fillers and refractory materials. Therefore, the analysis of quartz ore is particularly important. In some analytical studies, polished and polished quartz ore flakes are used, so the grinding and polishing process of quartz ore flakes becomes very important.

For the grinding and polishing of quartz ore flakes measuring 15mm × 18mm × 0.15mm, the UNIPOL-802 automatic precision grinding and polishing machine (see Figure 1 below) can be selected. This type of grinding and polishing machine is specially designed for the processing of crystal, ceramic, glass, metal, rock sample, mineral sample, refractory material, PCB board and composite material. First, make a sticky sample. The sample block and quartzite flakes were placed on an MTI-250 heating platform for heating. When the sample to be loaded reaches 80 ° C, paraffin is evenly coated on the sample, and then the aliquot is placed on the sample block, and gently squeezed to remove bubbles and excess paraffin. Take the downloaded sample block and press it with a slightly gravity object to cool it (avoid that all or all of the sheets are not in the same plane), then use alcohol to clean the excess paraffin on the edge of the sheet to avoid cross-contamination with the abrasive.

Second, adjust the grinding and polishing machine. Loosen the two support arms and move them to the outside of the body. Align the three mounting holes on the cast iron plate with the three mounting holes on the body tray. Move back the two support arms and adjust the two support rollers to the appropriate angle (between 90° and 150°) so that the load block can run smoothly after the cover ring is placed on the repair ring. Move the support arm up and down so that the support roller on the non-slidable arm is located near one-half of the height of the repair ring. The axial position of the support arm is adjusted based on the position of the repair ring, and when the support arm moves to the outermost side, the repair ring can be used to detect the grinding disc; when the support arm moves to the innermost side, the repair ring can pass through the grinding disc Center, lock the fixing screws. Place the SKZD-2 type hopper with W14 corundum abrasive on the rear platform of the grinding and polishing machine to adjust the position of the dropping tube. Then adjust the timing unit screw knob in the lower right corner of the grinding and polishing machine's watch dial, select min, adjust the timing range screw knob in the lower left corner, select the range of 0 to 30, and then turn the red pointer to 20. Open the drip feeder, drop the appropriate amount of abrasive on the cast iron disk, put the empty load block and put on the repair ring. After the grinding number adjustment knob of the grinding and polishing machine is reset to zero (return to zero before each start of the machine to avoid the wrong operation caused by the next startup), the machine is turned on, the number of revolutions is adjusted to 35 rpm, the support arm switch is turned on, and the adjustment is made. At the maximum speed, the cast iron disk is trimmed (in order to remove abrasives and debris from other sizes). After the repair, clean the cast iron disk, the load block, the repair ring with water, and then install the cast iron disk.

Then, the sheet is polished. The carrier block with the quartzite flakes is inverted on the cast iron disk and the trim ring is placed. Turn the timer red pointer to 30 min (the specific grinding time is determined by the flatness of the surface of the sheet, and the surface marks are removed). After returning to zero, the motor is turned on, the number of revolutions is adjusted to 35 rpm, and the speed of the support arm is adjusted to make the carrier block reciprocate laterally to ensure the uniformity of the sheet grinding. When the sheet is ground to the required level, the downloaded block, the repair ring and the cast iron disk are cleaned with water. Then replace it with a SKZD-2 type hopper with W7 corundum abrasive for re-disc. After the repair and cleaning, the second grinding was carried out, the timing time was selected to be 15 min, and the number of revolutions was adjusted to 35 rpm. After the completion of the polishing, the slide-covered carrier block, the repair ring, and the cast iron disk are washed with water (after drying, and then oiled and maintained for later use), and the sheet and its surroundings are washed with alcohol.

Finally, sheet polishing is performed. The polyurethane polishing pad is pasted on the polishing and polishing film, and the polishing pad should be evenly spread when pasting, so as to eliminate the bubbles on the bonding surface and ensure the flatness of the polishing surface. Then attach the magnetic pad to the aluminum plate, install the aluminum plate according to the method of installing the cast iron disk, and then place the polishing pad on the polishing pad. Place the SKZD-3 type hopper with W0.75 cerium oxide polishing solution on the rear platform of the grinding and polishing machine to adjust the position. Then use the method of repairing the cast iron disk to trim the polishing pad. The timer is selected for 5 min and the number of revolutions is 80 rpm. After the mat is completed, clean the polishing pad, the load block, and the repair ring with water. After the polishing pad is installed, the sample block and the repair ring with the quartz ore plate are placed on the polishing pad in turn, the timing time is selected to be 25 min, the number of revolutions is adjusted to 110 rpm, the support arm switch is opened, and the maximum speed is adjusted. Begin polishing the sheet.

After the polishing is completed, the carrier block is washed with water, then placed on a heating platform to heat, separate the quartz ore flakes and the carrier block, and the sheet is washed with alcohol. Figure 2 below shows the quartz ore flakes after the grinding and polishing process is completed. Table 1 below is some of the relevant parameters involved in the process.
