Choose plush toys, beware of design flaws

Recently, the Shandong Consumers Association has purchased 30 children's plush toy samples such as animal plush toys , cartoon characters plush toys, foam particle toys from Jinan and Qingdao, and carried out comparative tests on plush toys.

After testing, more than 80% of the 30 plush toy samples performed poorly in mechanical performance and had many problems.

Parts are easy to fall off. Of the 21 samples in this comparative test, 39 of the mechanical and physical properties were problematic. One is foreseeable reasonable abuse and testing of small toy parts used by children aged 36 months and below. There are six sample toy eyes and other components that fall off after testing and form small parts, which are easily swallowed by children and cause suffocation. 16 samples used in packaging or toys in plastic bags or plastic films are too thin, if touched by children, may cause children to be applied to the face by plastic bags, there is a risk of suffocation.

Production failed. In this comparative test, there are 12 toy samples for children aged 18 months and younger. The ribbons or straps formed on the ribbons are too large to fit over the child's head, which is easy to cause a risk of injury to children; the mouth and feet of the toy The line is too thin and it is easy to cause a strain on the child's fingers. The four samples showed cracking and hole-breaking. Some filled cotton, granule bags and other materials could be taken out of the damaged toy. The sewing quality and material strength of the toy also had problems.

High formaldehyde content. One sample in the comparative test had a formaldehyde content of 96.1 mg/kg, exceeding the national standard limit of 20 mg/kg. Children's play on toys is not limited to skin contact between hands and feet. Younger children prefer to stuff toys into the mouth. If the formaldehyde content is high, it is easy to have adverse consequences.

China Consumers Association said that up to now, China has a total of 31 national toy standards. The 2003 edition of the National Toy Safety Technical Specification is the most basic and important national standard for toys. It stipulates the mandatory technical requirements for mechanical and physical properties, combustion properties, transferable chemical elements, markings and instructions that toy products must follow. Recently, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the National Standards Committee have further revised these standards. The new standard will be implemented on January 1, 2016. When consumers buy toys, they should not only pay attention to the national compulsory product certification mark, but also the name of the product, the manufacturer's information, the main materials or ingredients, the age of use, safety warnings, product certification, etc., to avoid negligence. Children cause harm.
