Igus's 3D printed plastic wire Iglidur I150 Tribo receives EU food safety certification
Just now, German 3D printing plastics manufacturer Igus announced that their iglidur I150 Tribo wire is officially certified for use in the food industry according to EU regulations.
So far, this special wire has been used primarily for 3D printing of plain bearings and gears, and the new food safety certification opens up a new world for its applications. Iglidur I150 itself is not edible, but it can be safely contacted with food.
The iglidur I150 can be printed on any 3D printer with an extruder temperature of 250 degrees. Due to the very low shrinkage of this high-performance plastic, its printing can bypass the heating circuit board. This means that people can use it to produce special parts for the food industry quickly and at low cost, and it is non-toxic.
Recent tests by Igus Laboratories have shown that iglidur I150 exhibits much better wear resistance (up to 50 times in some cases) than traditional 3D printed materials. According to Igus, the iglidur I150 is one of the company's best Tribo wires. No lubrication and maintenance is the second biggest selling point, effectively bringing a lot of product applications.
Originally, the iglidur I150 was developed specifically for the production of complex moving parts that are subject to wear and tear, so it performs particularly well when it requires permanent load or chemical resistance.
